Nothing spectacular about this shot; I just like the intensity of the shade of blue.
Sorry for the delay in posting! Like the woman in the shot, I am a work in progress, and these days the emphasis has been more on "work" than "progress". But I have a list of photos I intend to post in the next couple of weeks, so expect to see more regular entries here! This was taken in Ottawa, Illinois, as part of a large Lincoln-Douglas Debate mural in the middle of downtown. Ottawa, once upon a time, was the site of the first debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas. It's one of the major claims to fame of Ottawa, and so I have many shots of the murals and statues and parks they have put up to commemorate the moment. (It may be summer, but you can still learn things at Kudzuplanet!)
Here's my Dad on a trip to the Botanic Garden (of course!). Hunh, in looking for some good shots to post today, I realized I haven't taken a lot of either of my parents when we're together. Now that I've had all this practice doing portraits lately, I'll have to rectify that the next time I see them. But in the meantime, here's one of me and my Dad (and my Mom and my husband, heheheh); we flew in last year to surprise Dad on his 60th birthday. I'm the one clinging to him like a limpet. He's the one multi-tasking. :)
Oh! And it's my parent's 40th anniversary today, too! Wow, I really wish I had some good photos of them to post. We have all these wonderful ones on film of the two of them, and in every single one of them, my Dad is looking at my Mom with this amazed smile on his face, like he can't believe he got so lucky to marry this woman. Every single shot, for years and years and years. No wonder they're celebrating their 40th! Congrats and I love you both.Lest I also forget the other side of my family: Happy Father's Day and another very Happy Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. P! :)
I have no idea what this one is called, but it's wonderfully soft to the touch!
They're almost gone for the season, but I couldn't miss them entirely. I love how their petals curl in as they mature.
I finally had some time to take a trip to the Botanic Garden this weekend. Expect a series of flower shots to appear in this space for the next few days!
I love clever marketing ploys like this. Located across the aisle from the legitimate handicapped spaces, they even had the lines around the spaces painted a matching pink.
Everyone laughs at me, but even after 17 years of living in the Midwest, I'm still unnerved at how BIG the sky is here against the flat land. These are two reasons why.
Storm's A-ComingIf you look at it in largest size, you can see how how it all seems to stem from one point in the middle.
Low Rolling Clouds
All the photos I posted in May 2007. Spring had sprung, hurray!
Oh, my, the 17-year cicadas are arriving! I thought I would have to go out to Morton Arboretum or one of my favorite state parks to get some good shots of them, but it turns out the little tree in front of my condo has been hiding them in its roots for years. My doormat is already littered with wings and eco-skeletons and molting cicadas! The tree and the bush in front of my neighbor's door is coated with them. I managed to get some good shots of the eco-skeletons (like this one), but I'm still shooting for a good image of a live cicada. Now I feel all itchy.
